Civil society calls on Member States to revise their mandate on key points and support the few provisions from the Parliament March plenary mandate which prevent the CAP from going backwards on previous reforms.

Environmental NGOs are deeply concerned about the trilogue negotiations drastic watering down of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) proposals for reform post 2013. The Council position would effectively continue the status quo of spending 58 billion euros of taxpayers’ money on failed CAP policies where 80% of funds go to just 20% of Europe’s farmers. The most harmful outcomes can however still be halted if key provisions from the Parliament plenary mandate are supported by the Council. Crucial and final decisions are scheduled to be made by negotiators during and around the AGRI Council of 24-25 June.
